About JTL
JTL is a national apprenticeship provider specialising in the electrical and plumbing sectors, supporting thousands of apprentices and working with employers across England and Wales. We are proud to be an Ofsted ‘Good’ provider and a registered charity, reinvesting in our apprentices, staff and training facilities.
Our apprentices are at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to ensuring every apprentice has the opportunity to participate fully, overcome barriers to learning and make sustained progress throughout their apprenticeship.
About the role
As a Learning Support Assistant, you will play an important role in helping apprentices across Cumbria, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire and surrounding areas access their learning, develop confidence and independence, and make sustained progress towards achieving their apprenticeship.
Working as part of JTL’s Additional Learning Support team, you will provide practical, individualised support in a range of settings. This may include in-class, one-to-one and small-group support, study skills activity, examination support and adapting learning resources to meet individual needs.
This is a mobile role supporting apprentices across Cumbria, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire and surrounding areas, and regular travel between JTL centres, apprentice locations and other delivery settings will be an important part of the role. You will therefore need to be comfortable travelling across the region to provide support where it is most needed.
Working closely with the Additional Learning Needs Coordinator, Learning Support Tutors, Tutors and Training Officers, you will help ensure apprentices receive consistent and effective support that reduces barriers to learning, promotes participation and develops greater independence.
Key Responibilities
You will:
Provide in-class, one-to-one and small-group support to apprentices in line with their Learning Support Plans.
Help apprentices overcome barriers to learning, build confidence and develop greater independence.
Deliver study skills and targeted support sessions to help apprentices prepare for learning and assessment.
Provide approved examination and assessment support, including acting as a reader or scribe where required.
Prepare and adapt learning resources to meet identified apprentice needs.
Support regular reviews of learning support, helping evaluate whether agreed interventions remain appropriate and effective.
Work with Tutors and Training Officers to implement agreed adjustments and support strategies.
Promote inclusive practice and help colleagues understand how reasonable adjustments can support apprentices to participate and progress.
Maintain accurate and timely records of support and review activity in line with organisational and funding requirements.
Identify and report safeguarding or welfare concerns in line with JTL’s procedures.
Travel regularly across Cumbria, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire and surrounding areas to support apprentices at different locations as required.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who is patient, supportive and passionate about helping apprentices overcome barriers and achieve their potential.
You will bring:
A Level 3 qualification in teaching and learning, or equivalent, or a willingness to work towards one.
GCSE Mathematics and English at Grade 4/C or above, or equivalent.
Experience of supporting apprentices, learners or young people with additional needs within an education, training, care or support environment.
Experience of providing practical support to individuals or small groups.
An awareness of common learning difficulties, neurodivergence and the barriers to learning they can create.
Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to adapt your approach to individual needs.
Good organisational and IT skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records.
A full driving licence and access to a vehicle, with the flexibility to travel regularly across Cumbria, County Durham, Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire and surrounding areas.
It would be beneficial if you also have:
A Level 4 qualification in teaching and learning, or equivalent teaching or training qualification.
Experience of acting as an examination reader, scribe or invigilator.
Experience within apprenticeships, further education or work-based learning.
Experience of supporting apprentices or learners in technical or vocational settings.
Knowledge of the building services engineering sector.
Mental Health First Aid or a similar relevant qualification
