Installation and Maintenance Electrician Tutor
Location: JTL Birmingham Training Centre
Working pattern/hours: Full time, 35 hours per week.
Salary: Up to £44,500, depending on skills and experience

About the role
To deliver high‑quality teaching, learning, and assessment to electrical apprentices and commercial learners, ensuring compliance with awarding‑body standards and contributing to continuous improvement of training provision across the centre. The postholder will be based in JTL Birmingham, with occasional regional and national travel.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
Safeguarding & Pastoral Support
Ensure the welfare and safety of apprentices at all times, actively safeguarding and promoting wellbeing throughout the programme.
Provide ongoing pastoral support and guidance to apprentices.
Work professionally and promptly with employers, apprentices, and related stakeholders to address any welfare‑related queries, concerns, or issues in a timely manner.
Uphold safeguarding protocols at all times, including during commercial delivery and centre operations.
Teaching & Assessment
Deliver high‑quality teaching, learning, and assessment to apprentices in line with awarding‑body standards and JTL expectations.
Support apprentices to maintain timely progress through their apprenticeship and complete within planned timeframes.
Provide commercial training across a range of short courses, including 18th Edition and Level 3 Inspection & Testing, ensuring all delivery meets JTL and awarding‑body requirements.
Utilise teaching resources aligned with current industry standards, legislation, and best practice.
Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of learning materials, scheme content, and course delivery approaches based on learner feedback and professional practice.
Offer guidance, feedback, and support to learners to ensure an excellent learning experience across both apprenticeship and commercial programmes.
Mark learner assessments and exam paperwork accurately, within required timescales, and in accordance with internal and external quality assurance expectations.
Participate in internal quality assurance processes and engage constructively with feedback to support continuous improvement.
Stay up to date with developments within the electrical industry (including industry trends, qualification updates, and regulatory changes) to ensure teaching and assessment remains current and relevant.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain effective working relationships with employers, apprentices, colleagues, and external partners to support training delivery and learner success.
Engage proactively with customer needs, responding professionally to training enquiries, issues, and feedback from employers and learners.
Support and represent JTL at industry events, external committees, and professional forums as required.
Collaborate with centre managers, support teams, and Training Officers to coordinate bookings, support learner progression, and address any disciplinary or pastoral issues.
Cooperate with internal and external inspection bodies, responding to reasonable requests for information and contributing to audit and compliance processes.
Administration & Additional Duties
Maintain accurate records for attendance, punctuality, progression, assessments, and evaluations in accordance with awarding‑body standards, internal quality assurance standards and external compliance expectations.
Prepare regular reports and liaise with Training Officers regarding course progress, pastoral matters, and disciplinary concerns.
Support administrative coordination with central teams and managers to ensure smooth programme delivery, including monitoring and advising on stock levels.
Occasional travel between JTL centres (primarily JTL South Yorkshire) as required to support training delivery, assessment, and administrative responsibilities.
Support the Manager with reasonable additional duties that align with evolving operational needs and organisational improvement priorities.
What we’re looking for:
Electrical level 3 technical qualification or equivalent
BS7671 18th Edition Wiring Regulations Qualification
Level 3 2391 Inspection & Testing or equivalent.
Verifiable post-qualification electrical experience within an electrical services organisation
Understanding of teaching in Further Education and/or apprenticeship delivery
GCSE/O’Level Maths and English A-C, 9 – 4 or Maths and English Level 2, or equivalent
Experience of delivering electrical training including 2391 Inspection & testing the 18th Edition.
Working knowledge of the electrical industry
Strong Presentation Skills
Good IT Skills
Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills.
Desirable:
Assessor qualifications (D32, D33, A1 or TAQA)
Internal Verifier qualifications (D34, V1 or TAQA)
Working knowledge of the Contracting Industry / Building and Services Industry
First Aid Qualification
