Safeguarding Officer - Maternity Cover
Location: Home based with national travel.
Working pattern/hours: Fixed Term Contract, Maternity cover until approximately July 2027.
Salary: Up to £36,000 depending on skills and experience.

About the role
The post holder will be the primary contact for all safeguarding and welfare concerns and promote a safe environment for staff and apprentices. They will improve and maintain awareness of safeguarding matters across JTL by contributing to and implementing corporate business plan objectives and policies and advising staff on issues relating to Equality & Diversity, Safeguarding and Prevent.
Key responsibilities include:
Support and manage JTL’s safeguarding work, in line with legislation, JTL safeguarding policy, procedures, regulations, standards and guidance.
Record all safeguarding concerns and ensure all data is securely retained in accordance with JTL regulations, policies and data protection legislation.
Manage safeguarding and low-level welfare concerns.
Manage safeguarding and child protection concerns in a timely manner and in line with JTL requirements and guidance.
Collate and record reports and requests, identifying themes to inform the development of safeguarding practices.
Understand threshold levels and services available, including those linked to statutory services, and use this knowledge to make safeguarding enquiries, make referrals and liaise with other safeguarding professionals.
Ensure information sharing supports timely and appropriate decision making, which is based on individual need and prevents harm.
Maintain knowledge of the local safeguarding agencies and their processes for receiving and handling referrals.
Support the review and implementation of safeguarding risk assessments.
Compile and distribute notes from safeguarding meetings and forums.
Collaborate with professional networking groups and Prevent Coordinators to enhance understanding of local risks, ensuring the safety and well-being of JTL learners.
Liaise as required with the Health Safety & Wellbeing Officer to ensure apprentices are supported and any medical/welfare risks are managed appropriately through risk assessments and raised awareness.
Assist with internal and external communications to raise safeguarding & Prevent awareness and support the development and delivery of training sessions.
Contribute to implementing and maintaining JTL’s Safeguarding standard for all learners, including professional reviews of subcontractor due diligence returns.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with JTL staff and key stakeholders.
Work with colleagues to embed safeguarding and equality throughout JTL.
Provide the highest level of customer excellence to all key stakeholders.
Liaise with the wider Quality & Curriculum Team to co-ordinate safeguarding visits, spot checks/audits on JTL Centre and subcontracted partners to ensure they are compliant with JTL procedures and to check on the culture and safeguarding practice.
Manage a diverse workload, being able to prioritise work according to risk and timeframes, providing regular updates to line manager on progress.
Execute tasks as required in order to meet JTL’s changing priorities.
What we’re looking for:
Educated to NVQ Level 3 or equivalent with good passes in O Level/GCSE maths and English, or equivalent (A-C or 8-4)
Level 3 safeguarding qualification or equivalent by experience
Proven experience in a safeguarding role in education
Good working knowledge of Equality and Diversity related legislation
Good working knowledge of Safeguarding legislation including Prevent
Excellent verbal and written presentation skills
Excellent IT skills, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Desirable:
Educated to degree level or equivalent
Good working knowledge of apprenticeships
